14. Random Acts of Kindness and Lima Beans

The end of the year brings Timed Essay Season at Writing Foundations for Levels One, Two, and Three, and we love it! The students have been preparing for this the whole year, and it shows!

One of the prompts for the Level One students asks them to write about a random act of kindness: when a stranger does something kind for someone without expecting anything in return.

13. What’s with the crazy hats?

Way back in 2008 when it was cool and convenient, I started adding online classes in addition to the local co-op classes I was teaching. I had been using a plethora of entertaining gimmicks at the in-person classes (like throwing pieces of discarded puzzles at students that they could cash in for Hershey Kisses), and I needed something special to jazz up the online classes so they weren’t just boring lectures.

11. Round the Mountain Again?

“I just feel like we’re going around the mountain again, you know?”

A few years ago, a friend confided in me about a situation that she was facing within her family. She was discouraged because they had been through the same issue so many times already, and here they were again.

My friend’s discouragement about “going around the mountain again” came to mind a few weeks ago.

10. New Class Starts in January!

It’s never too late to build solid writing skills!

Writing Foundations Mid-Year Entry Spring Course (MYESC) begins the week of January 10 and runs through April (16 weeks). For families who need a mid-year boost in their English language arts program for their students, this is a great choice!

MYESC will meet the needs of students ages 11 and up. It is designed for students who are new to writing or experienced students who are struggling with solid sentence structure, paragraph building skills, and grammar/punctuation skills.
